Special Note To Deployed Members:
At the September Club meeting the membership
proposed and passed a motion to waive 2010 club dues for any serviceman or woman
deployed overseas in 2009. Annual club dues normally run $55.00 for an adult
membership, or $70.00 for a family membership, with an additional $10.00 one
time initiation fee. All those fees are waived for any service person who was
active and deployed at any time in 2009. The service member will still need to
pay the $5.00 deposit per electronic keycard requested (one minimum). The
deployment need not be to a combat zone; any service spent outside CONUS is
eligible. To take advantage of that benefit, write “deployed serviceperson” in
the Total of Check Enclosed/Amount due section and a contact number/address for
someone in your unit should we need to verify your deployed status.
In the November’s Club meeting the membership proposed and passed a motion to
also waive 2010 club dues for any serviceman or woman with orders to deploy.
If you are a serviceperson with orders to deploy any time in 2010, even TDY, you
are also eligible to take advantage of this policy.
Complete the application, remember to include
your check made payable to W.S.S.A. (no cash), and mail to:

P.O. Box 219
Lewisberry, PA 17339 Message from
the President and Vice President – WSSA’s new gate system and the Capital
Campaign Dear WSSA Member,
The past ten months have seen a great increase in WSSA membership.
Our membership has nearly reached one-thousand households. With this growth the
need for improvements and maintenance to our facility has also increased. As
stewards of not only the financial resources of the club but also its physical
maintenance and capital improvements, the Board of Directors is requesting your
help.
There are two major capital improvements the Association funded by
taking loans against our moneys in the land fund. Rather than raise dues, or
take a loan from a bank, the membership voted to fund two capital projects using
our own reserves. The club borrowed $10,000, to be repaid with interest, for the
purchase of the front end loader to rebuild our existing berms and shape some
new ones. We also borrowed $20,000 to fund the installation of an electronic
gate and card reader system. To help retire these loans we are asking that the
membership voluntarily contribute to a Capitol Campaign. If each household would
consider making a donation of $10 to $20 for this campaign our debt would be
quickly retired.
The Board has not raised dues in several years and is very reluctant to
do so now. Before any move to increase dues is considered, we are requesting
your voluntary help with this Capitol Campaign. Contributions to the
Capitol Campaign can be sent to WSSA, P.O. Box 219, Lewisberry, PA 17339. Please
write a note stating that your donation is for the campaign.
David Sisca
WSSA Vice President
You will notice in your Renewal for 2010 a new line item for a one
time $5.00 refundable deposit. Within the next 6 weeks WSSA will have an
electronic gate and card reader systems installed on the property. This $5.00
deposit will be for your new HID card. This card will activate both the gate arm
and the clubhouse doors. We will continue using the current gate and lock until
December 31st, but we will cease using our paper ID cards effective December
31st.
Keep this card safe; it will serve as your form of Club ID for the
entire duration of your membership at WSSA. If you misplace it while on Club
property you will not be able to open the gate or drive past it to leave. If you
do lose it call the Membership Secretary so it can be deactivated and a new one
issued. Replacement cards will require an additional $5.00 deposit. Although it
is not required, for another $5.00 deposit Family memberships may request one
additional HID card for your household. If at some point in the future you
decide not to renew your membership, send your HID card(s) back to the
Membership Secretary and your deposit will be refunded.
This represents a step into the 21st Century. For many decades the
club has been able to operate with the combination lock and a manual gate. We
are simply too large to continue to operate like we did when we were 400
members. The card reader system and the automatic gate will provide modern
convenience to us as members. It will save the club the cost of printing and
mailing membership cards every year. The Board also considers enhanced security
the most important reason for this system. It will do away with the anonymous
access of the property, helping to ensure that the only people at WSSA are those
who have a legitimate right to be there. It is also my hope that this will
discourage some of the careless, costly damage and destruction we’ve seen done
to our assets, property and equipment.
Several other large clubs in the area have already migrated to
electronic systems, and they raised the dues upon their membership to fund it.
We have managed to avoid that. We have to recognize we’re no longer a small
club. For many of you decades-long members it’s hard to think of us as a big
organization, but we today we are. This is one of the first of many steps we’re
taking as we grow into our bigger shoes.
Ken O’Donnell
WSSA President
